Spectacle of Confusion

Entertainers and media outlets have long understood the value of attracting attention through spectacle. Along with sex, violence, catastrophe and suffering, characters and stories which challenge traditional gender role can attract the short attention span crowd. To the credit of some in this category, however, the spectacular nature of their gender defying acts was an artifact or addition to their unquestionnable talent. Some of the figures here are no more than gender bending sensations while others are more well known for their artistic or athletic prowess.
