Androgyny Image

Peter Murphy was a founding member of the 1970's and 80's Goth/New Wave band Bauhaus. Murphy was one of the early Goth stylists, dressing in dark, vampire inspired clothing and heavy makeup. His long hair and gaunt features in combination with this styling created a somewhat genderless persona which was later developed by other pop artists, most notably Marilyn Manson. Murphy's influences were partly drawn from his Irish-Catholic upbrining as well as his later adoption of Islam and Sufist mysticism.
