The British synth-pop band Client formed in the late 1990's and featured band members with anonymous (and androgynous) names Client A and Client B. Various other members have come and gone, also using the generic Client name as their stage names. The androgynous styling and stage personae of these band members works in conjunction with the synth based music to present a highly altered version of the traditional pop-icon sex symbol usually associated with popular music. Removing sexuality from musical performance questions the gender-based nature of our idolatry of and identification with pop stars.
