Chyna, born Joan Marie Laurer, was a prominent figure on the WWF women's tour from 1997 to 2001, holding the title of champion on and off during that period. Laurer first made her entry into wrestling when she was spotted by professional wrestler Triple-H who incorporated her into his act as a dominatrix/enforcer who would enter the ring against his male opponents and issue her disabling upper cut to the crotch. Laurer's highly enhanced physique (including custom made breast implants) places her firmly within the homogenous group of both male and female WWF performers who share a highly stylized svelte muscularity with adopted names and personae. Showing her adaptability as either bodyguard or seductress, Chyna appeared in the November, 2000 issue of Playboy magazine.
