Crazy Ray (Paris Qui Dort) is a short film created by French filmmaker Rene Clair in 1925. This futuristic film features a mad scientist who uses a ray gun to lure all of Paris to sleep except for a few individuals who go on to loot the city. Clair's vision of the future shows citizens who have adopted a generic style of dress and grooming. Note the similarity of hairstyles for the male and female characters shown at left. Perhaps Clair was drawing on the androgynous styling developed by the ancient cults of Isis and Osiris for inspiration.
