Jayne County, from Dallas, Georgia, was one of the notable participants in the 1960's New York Queercore movement which featured transgender and transsexual musicians, actors and other performers. County participated in the Stonewall riots in New York in 1968 and was featured by Warhol in his theatrical production Pork. Wayne County and the Electric Chairs formed in 1977 and has been through several incarnations since then, most recently under the name Jayne County and the Electric Chairs. County's fluid transition from Wayne to Jayne throughout "her" career signifies her lack of allegiance to any particular gender identity.
